This is a basic info we want to provide to you in case you plan
on visiting South Padre Island ( or short SPI as we all call it),
Texas in the near future , kind of pre-planing suggestions for your stay on our tropical Sand Bar and to give you a most basic idea what goes on on this island.
All suggestions are based on common questions our
passenger asked us while bringing them to the island.
We do not
link to individual web pages as they may shift but to Google
business profile so you see recent feedback from people like you
Reaching the island by rental car/car or not?
Please keep in mind that South Padre Island is an Island - as such, parking is limited.
South Padre Island has on the Island a free shuttle service which
comes every 15 minuets and is "hop on hop off" and even brings you
to Port Isabel if you catch the right bus - scheduled
and routes can be seen here
There are several beach access points on the island but each has
an average car capacity of 15 cars.
Your best friend to get to the beach with your cooler, beach chair and boom box is the "radio flyer" with beach tires on it.
Once you are on the island and still believe you need wheels to
get around check out "South
Padre Island fun rentals" which are our tourist preferred
way of exploring the island
and as you rent them only when needed
- you are not stuck with a rental car which does not perform well
on the beach in the first place, there are several locations throughout the island and most likely one near your hotel / condo / beach house,
remember - you go on vacation not
to work so have fun and and if you feel like being wild - do just
that instead of being stuck in a "daily driver"
There are sufficient Taxis on the island which are kind of community Taxi and tend to be inexpensive for your ride no matter where you go on the island.
If you still believe you need a rental car - each airport will
provide you with wheels but keep in mind your neighbor Elon Musk
send his Tesla
already in 2018 into space and enjoys the beach barefoot, good
luck catching up to him.
Supermarkets on SPI
For the ones which are concerned to get enough paper towels and toilet paper to keep all the small ones clean,
there is a supermarket
on the island and for the adults there are multiple liquor
stores ,
if you let us know when you reserve your shuttle
that you need to stop at either -
we can accommodate your wish for
a stop over as long as your shopping is within a reasonable time
frame.
It should be noted that liquor stores are closed on Sundays but
you can purchase beer and wine in most grocery stores and gas
stations after 12:00pm .
In case you start dreaming to much while walking with your loved one down the beach - we got even the aspect of thereafter covered with Adam and Eve.
